Mary Ellen’s Story
My name is Mary Ellen Federico. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s about a year and a half ago. I have dealt with its challenges to my daily life with the support of my husband, family and friends along with my team of my doctor, physical therapist, support groups, exercise class instructors, etc. It has certainly changed my life, and I have discovered there are ways to continue on into a “new normal” future!
I have come to realize things could certainly be worse, but they are just different, learning to listen to my body, accepting and making adjustments when necessary…knowing each day may be different but not giving up while encouraging others and wanting to give back to the community.
I feel very blessed and lucky to have such a wonderful Caregiver in my life — my husband, Gil. He is always there to listen and give me support, encouragement and a little “boost” when I need it. I am so thankful, not for Parkinson’s, but for everything I have learned and everyone around me who are always there! In many ways, I have grown with this experience.
